The Invisible Lift

“The temple is the scaffold of the upper eye.”

Many patients focus on their eyes or cheeks, not realising that a “tired,” “gaunt,” or “skeletal” look often originates from the temples. When this area loses volume, the architectural support for the eyebrow collapses, causing the tail of the brow to drop and the eye to look heavy.

At Eleventh Heaven™, we view temple restoration as Architectural Medicine. It is not about “plumping”; it is about re-establishing the smooth, convex curve of the forehead that defines a youthful, rested face.

Led by Dr Ricky Sia, this precise procedure is performed with the highest degree of anatomical knowledge, restoring the seamless transition from the hairline to the cheekbone without anyone knowing you’ve had work done.

Why the Face Loses its Shape?

A balanced face features a smooth, continuous silhouette. Ageing and weight loss can cause the face to assume a “peanut” shape—wide at the forehead, narrow at the temples, and wide again at the cheeks.

1. The Disrupted “Ogee Curve”

The Ogee Curve is the aesthetic “S-shape” that flows smoothly from the forehead, curves gently inward at the temple, and swells outward at the cheekbone. Hollowing breaks this line, creating a harsh shadow that makes the face look older and more masculine. Restoring the temple re-establishes this vital curve of youth.

2. The Dropping Brow (Brow Ptosis)

Think of the temple as a shelf that holds up the tail of the eyebrow. As bone density depletes and fat pads shrink in the temporal region, that shelf disappears, and the brow slides downward. By restoring structural support deep on the bone, we often achieve a subtle, non-surgical brow lift, opening the eyes and reducing hooding.

3. The “Cheek-Only” Trap

Be cautious of the temptation to treat midface volume loss in isolation. Restoring the cheeks without addressing deeply hollowed temples can actually exacerbate facial asymmetry, highlighting the gauntness above. Dr Ricky’s architectural approach ensures the entire facial frame is balanced.

The Eleventh Heaven Standard

Because the temple is a complex vascular zone, “blind” or generic treatment is not an option. We use a doctor-led, precision-based approach.

  • Step 1: The Deep Foundation: We place structural support deep on the bone (the periosteum). This mimics the lost skeletal volume and provides the most significant lift to the overlying tissues.

  • Step 2: The Soft Transition: We ensure the treatment integrates seamlessly with the forehead and cheekbone. The goal is a smooth, continuous curve—no lumps, no ridges.

  • Step 3: The Safety Layer: The temple houses the temporal artery. Using a Cannula (a blunt-tipped instrument) and deep-plane techniques allows us to navigate the tissue layers with more safety, minimising trauma and keeping well away from danger zones.

Is This For You?

Temple restoration is often the “missing link” for patients who feel they look tired or stern but can’t pinpoint why.

Often Considered For:

  • The “Athletic” Face: Runners and high-intensity athletes often lose temporal volume first, resulting in “Runner’s Face.”

  • The Heavy Eyelid: Patients noticing hooding or a stern expression at the outer corner of the eye.

  • Visible Anatomy: Hollowing can expose the underlying temporal veins and bone structure; restoration adds a soft, cushioning layer.

Safety & Risks

We prioritise medical safety above aesthetics. All cosmetic procedures carry risks that must be discussed during your consultation.

Common Side Effects

  • Vein Visibility: The temporal veins may look slightly more prominent immediately after treatment due to temporary swelling, but this settles quickly.

  • Discomfort: A dull ache or “tension headache” sensation is common for 1–3 days.

Rare but Serious Risks

  • Vascular Occlusion: A rare emergency where blood supply is compromised. Dr Ricky carries all necessary reversal protocols and emergency equipment on-site.

  • Infection: Strict sterile techniques are maintained at all times to minimise this risk.

Any cosmetic or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Individual results vary; no outcome is guaranteed.

FAQs - Temple Hollowing & Upper Face Restoration Brisbane

Is treating the temples painful?

The temple area is surprisingly low in nerve sensitivity. Most patients report a sensation of “pressure” or a “tight headband” feeling during the procedure, but it is rarely described as painful.

Can I chew normally afterwards?

Yes. The temporalis muscle (which helps you chew) sits in this area. You may feel a slight, dull ache or tension when chewing tough foods (like steak) for 24–48 hours as the muscle adapts to the new structural support, but this resolves quickly.

Is it dangerous?

The temple contains important vascular anatomy, making it an advanced treatment area. This is why it is critical to choose a doctor-led clinic. Dr Ricky utilises ultrasound guidance when indicated, alongside deep-plane placement and cannula techniques, to maintain the highest safety standards.
