During treatment

Patients typically experience bright flashes of light with a brief sensation of warmth or snapping against the skin. Comfort varies according to the treatment area, settings used, and individual sensitivity.

Immediately after

The skin may appear mildly pink or warm. This typically settles within a few hours.

Over the following days

Treated pigmentation may temporarily darken before gradually shedding. This can resemble fine peppering or coffee-ground speckling on the skin and is an expected and normal part of the process. Timing varies by area and concern.

Social downtime

Downtime is generally limited. Most patients return to usual activities without significant interruption. Mineral makeup is often possible where appropriate, and the visible recovery is usually manageable for patients who prefer a lower-downtime pathway.

Common effects (usually temporary)

Redness, warmth, mild swelling, temporary darkening of treated pigment, and transient sensitivity.

Less common effects

Bruising, blistering, prolonged redness, or post-inflammatory changes in pigmentation — hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation — particularly in pigment-prone skin.

Rare but significant

Burns, infection, scarring, or persistent pigment change.
